An alleged audio clip of BJP leader C J Chavda has triggered fresh political controversy in Mehsana district, exposing growing factionalism within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In the purported viral clip, Chavda is heard claiming that he was paid ₹2 crore to leave the Congress and join the BJP ahead of the Assembly elections.

The alleged audio clip has intensified political debate over claims of monetary funding in exchange for switching political parties as well as election campaigning expenses.

Earlier this week, another audio clip allegedly featuring Councillor Chandrakant Patel claiming that the political career of former Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel is ‘finished’ had created a stir in political circles.

Before that controversy could settle, yet another alleged audio clip surfaced in which Rajya Sabha MP Mayank Nayak was reportedly referred to as ‘zero’, further fuelling internal tensions within the party.

Now, the purported audio clip of Vijapur MLA C J Chavda has become the latest flashpoint. In the viral clip, the MLA is allegedly heard saying that when he contested the Assembly elections after quitting the Congress to join the BJP, he was given ₹2 crore for the party switch.

He further alleged that under normal circumstances, the party does not give more than ₹50 lakh to candidates.

It is being speculated that the audio clip may date back to the period of local self-government elections. The clip has sparked widespread discussion in political circles and raised concerns within the state BJP leadership as multiple alleged audio recordings involving party leaders continue to surface on social media.
