Missing man in Changodar leads to murder probe, 2 held for killing co-worker from Assam

What began as a routine missing person enquiry has led Changodar police to crack a brutal murder case involving two young migrant workers, both accused of strangling their 23-year-old co-worker for financial gain before attempting to destroy evidence.
Led by Police Inspector A P Chaudhary, the Changodar police launched an investigation to trace missing persons and unidentified bodies.
On March 16, 2025, skeletal remains of an unidentified person were recovered near the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) railway tracks close to Tajpur village, in Sanand. A missing person report had been lodged the following day by Saikul Ali, regarding his brother Mohibul Ali, a 23-year-old native of Barpeta, Assam, who had been employed at Maxgraphics Company on Tajpur Road and had been missing since March 6.
During the investigation, police identified two suspects through technical surveillance and interrogation. The accused were identified as:
Santalal Sitaram(19), resident of Pratapgarh (Uttar Pradesh) and Rohit Singh(18), resident of Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh)
Both were colleagues and roommates of the victim and worked at the same factory.
According to police, the accused lured Mohibul to an isolated spot near the railway line on the pretext of a conversation. There, they strangled him using a cloth cord, allegedly with the intent to gain access to his Google Pay and ATM passwords. After murdering him, the duo attempted to dispose of the body by dumping it in a railway drain. They reportedly burned his face using his T-shirt and left his mobile phone behind to avoid identification.
The Changodar police have booked the accused under Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and placed both under arrest. Further investigation is ongoing to determine if others were involved or if there are similar offences linked to the suspects.
Inspector Chaudhary, who is heading the investigation, stated that this case highlights the importance of diligent follow-up on missing person reports, which can often uncover deeper criminal acts.
