Rajkot witnessed a shocking road accident on Sunday morning near Amrapali Underbridge on Raiya Road after a speeding car lost control and struck an elderly moped rider. CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, showing the car launching into the air after hitting a speed breaker before crashing into the victim.

According to information available, the car was travelling at high speed when it hit the speed breaker with such force that it became airborne. Moments later, the driver lost control and rammed into an elderly man riding a moped. The impact threw the victim into the air before he landed on the road.

After hitting the moped rider, the driver allegedly attempted to flee the scene. During the escape, the car reportedly struck two other vehicles. Nearly 200 metres away from the accident site, the vehicle crashed into a signboard near a tree while turning into a lane, finally coming to a halt. The impact was so severe that the car's airbags deployed instantly.

The occupants abandoned the damaged vehicle and fled from the spot.

The injured moped rider has been identified as Ramesh Kumar, a railway employee. He sustained serious head injuries in the accident and was rushed to a private hospital by local residents who gathered at the scene immediately after the crash.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the car was being driven by a minor. Preliminary inquiries revealed that five minors were travelling in the vehicle and were returning from a yoga class when the accident occurred. The car was also found to be missing a rear number plate.

Following the incident, a team from Gandhigram Police Station launched an investigation. After it emerged that the driver was a minor, police summoned his father to the police station for questioning and recorded his statement. Further legal action is underway.
