Minor among two held with 6 kg ganja at Ahmedabad Railway Station

The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Ahmedabad Crime Branch, along with Railway Police, has arrested two persons including a juvenile after seizing 6 kg of ganja from their possession at the city’s railway station, officials said on Wednesday.
The arrest was made on March 18 during a surveillance operation near the foot overbridge (FOB) staircase on the Sabarmati side of Platform No. 1 at Ahmedabad Railway Station.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), police personnel on patrol noticed a minor behaving suspiciously while carrying luggage and attempting to leave the station hurriedly. He was intercepted and questioned, during which he allegedly admitted that the bags in his possession contained contraband.
Subsequently, another youth identified as his associate was tracked and apprehended from the railway station entrance with the help of technical surveillance.
The accused have been identified as Ankit Kumar Mantu Goswami (19), a resident of Bihar and 17-year-old minor. Police said the minor was treated as a juvenile in conflict with law and appropriate procedures were followed in the presence of a Child Welfare Officer.
During a detailed search conducted in accordance with provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, officers recovered six packets of ganja concealed inside two college bags. The total net weight of the seized contraband was found to be 6 kg, with an estimated market value of ₹3 lakh.
In addition, two mobile phones, taking the total value of seized property to around ₹3.08 lakh.
Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) officials conducted preliminary testing on the spot, confirming the substance as cannabis. The seized material was later sealed and documented as per legal procedures.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly revealed that the consignment originated from Odisha and was being transported via train through Maharashtra to Gujarat. They alleged that they were promised ₹4,000 for delivering the narcotics to contacts in Gujarat, including locations such as Samakhiyali in Kutch, Vadodara and Ahmedabad.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is on. Officials said efforts are under way to identify and apprehend other members of the network and to determine the full extent of the supply chain.
