| 2.5 magnitude earthquake struck Valsad |
Gujarat's Valsad and nearby regions woke up to mild tremors this morning. An earthquake of magnitude 2.5 struck Valsad at 8.25 am on Wednesday, as per the Seismological Research Institute.
Given its low intensity, tremors were felt only lightly across most areas. Still, several people reportedly rushed outdoors in fear.
The epicentre of the earthquake was reported around 46 kilometres from Valsad city. Since it was situated away from the main city, the impact was likely felt more in rural areas compared to urban neighbourhoods.
Fortunately, due to its low magnitude, no significant damage to life or property has been reported so far.
Following the tremors, district authorities went on alert mode. Emergency and disaster management teams were instructed to remain prepared for any untoward incident. However, with the quake registering just 2.5 on the scale, normal life in Valsad and surrounding regions resumed quickly after the initial scare. Authorities have urged citizens not to pay heed to rumors and to maintain calm.
Officials also noted that such low-intensity tremors can serve as reminders to check preparedness for any future seismic activity.
