US firm to set up a semiconductor assembly plant in Ahmedabad
It will create up to 5,000 new direct jobs
20% incentive support from the state government
US-based semiconductor giant, Micron Technology, announced on June 22 that it will set up a semiconductor assembly and test plant in Sanand, Ahmedabad, with an investment of ₹22,540 crore.

A two-phase plant at Sanand GIDC
The semiconductor giant, Micron boasts of an annual turnover of $31bn, will now be a part of Sanand GIDC. The plant will produce components of dynamic random access memory (DRAM) and NAND flash memory in two phases in Gujarat.
The first phase will include 5,00,000 sq ft. of planned cleanroom space, which is likely to become operational in late 2024. The plant will generate 5,000 direct and almost 15,000 indirect jobs in the coming years.
Support from the central government’s scheme
The company announced this news during PM Narendra Modi's visit to the US, where he met company president and CEO Sanjay Mehrotra in Washington. The combined investment by the company Micron and the government of two phases will be up to $2.75 billion.
The plant has been approved under the government's scheme of "Modified Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP)".
Under the scheme, the semiconductor company will receive 50% fiscal support for the total project cost from the Indian government and incentives representing 20% of the total production project cost from the state government.
