Organ donation in India
Any person willing to donate a living organ should be over the age of 18 and have healthy organs.
For donations, a person can fill out NOTTO’s form-7 and initiate the registration process.
After which, a donor card is granted to them, which should be carried along at all times mandatorily.
In their lifetime, a person can donate their one kidney and certain parts of their pancreas-liver as part of a living organ donation. After death, their organs could be donated through brain death.
One organ donor could save around eight lives in need.
As of now, 2.5 lakh people are in search of a kidney donor, 80,000 seek a liver donor, 50,000 seek a heart donor, and 1 lakh seek an eye donor in India.
