‘Melody’ chocolate protest: AAP targets government over rising fuel prices in unique way
Workers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) held a unique protest in Jamnagar on Wednesday against the rising prices of petrol and diesel. During the protest, party workers distributed ‘Melody’ chocolates at the District Collector’s office and criticized the Central Government’s economic policies.
The protest was led by district president Rajendrasinh Sodha. A large number of party workers gathered at the Collector’s office, raised slogans, and submitted a memorandum demanding an immediate reduction in fuel prices. After submitting the memorandum, the workers started distributing Melody chocolates among people and government employees using the popular advertisement line, ‘Melody itni chocolaty kyun hai?’
The protest created a chaotic situation at the office, after which police reached the spot. Police detained several AAP workers, including Sodha, for protesting without permission. They were taken to the police headquarters in a police van, but were released later.
Speaking to the media after their release, AAP leaders said that the continuous rise in petrol and diesel prices is badly affecting common and middle class families. They also said that increasing transport costs are causing higher prices of vegetables and essential goods.
During the protest, some AAP workers also made political remarks linking the ‘Melody’ chocolate campaign to national politics.
Police officials said that security was increased around the Collector’s office to prevent any further disturbance.
