Medical students alloted new accommodation after AI171 crash in Ahmedabad exams postponed

Following the plane crash incident on B J Medical College’s boys hostel, the college management has now decided to set up mess facilities within the hostel buildings for the students. Meanwhile, the postponed internal theory and practical exams for second-year students will now begin from June 26.

The internal exams for second-year students will start from June 26, as Gujarat University’s final exams are set to begin on August 1. However, exams for first-year students will not be held at this time. Regular academic sessions will resume from June 24.

The original mess facility for male MBBS students was located on the ground and first floors of the mess building.

B J Medical College has over 1,200 MBBS students across all years, with male students having access to meals in that mess. But after the building was destroyed in the crash, the students have faced food-related hardships. For the past several days, various organisations have been providing snacks, tea, and meals, but a more permanent mess solution was necessary.

Therefore, the college administration has decided to establish a new mess at the canteen area of hostel buildings Sopan 7 and 8, where many MBBS students currently reside. As it was the norm earlier, students themselves will manage the mess operations by procuring supplies and hiring cooks.

Additionally, super-specialty PG residents who were staying in buildings Atulyam 1-2, 3, and 4 have been relocated to other rented quarters or rooms. Academic activities had been temporarily halted due to the plane crash, and internal exams for first- and second-year students were postponed.
