Massive fire engulfs slum near Metro corridor in Ahmedabad

A major fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon in a slum settlement located near the metro corridor on the main road connecting Vishala Circle and Narol in Ahmedabad. The blaze spread rapidly through the densely packed settlement, engulfing dozens of huts within minutes.
According to reports, nearly 200 huts housing labourers and low-income families are located in the area. More than 60 huts were reportedly gutted in the fire as flames continued to spread through the settlement.
The presence of highly combustible materials such as dry bamboo, plastic sheets and household items intensified the blaze, making firefighting operations difficult. Authorities fear that most belongings stored inside the affected huts have been destroyed.
Local residents alerted the fire control room after spotting the fire. The Fire Department rushed eight fire tenders along with water tankers to the spot to bring the situation under control.
The exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are yet to be determined.
