Massive fire breaks out at scrap warehouse near Sanand

A major fire broke out at a scrap warehouse near Charodi on the Viramgam-Ahmedabad highway, close to Sanand, on Thursday afternoon, officials said.
According to initial reports, the blaze erupted at a godown storing scrap material and quickly escalated into a massive fire, engulfing the entire premises. Thick plumes of smoke were seen billowing into the sky, with videos of the incident circulating on social media.
Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency service department teams rushed to the spot and are engaged in efforts to bring the blaze under control. Officials said that extensive firefighting operations are under way, though no casualties have been reported so far.
“The fire spread rapidly due to the combustible nature of the materials stored in the warehouse,” an official said, adding that the extent of the damage is yet to be fully assessed. Preliminary information suggests that the contents of the godown have been gutted.
The incident has raised concern as the warehouse is located in proximity to an industrial unit, including a Kirloskar company facility nearby. However, authorities said that necessary precautions are being taken to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent establishments.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and an investigation will be initiated once the situation is brought under control, officials added.
