Massive blaze at wax factory in Santej Industrial area of Gujarat injures three

A massive fire broke out at a wax manufacturing factory in the Santej industrial area in Kalol Taluka of Gandhinagar district on Friday evening, triggering panic in the locality and prompting a large-scale emergency response.

The fire reportedly erupted at a unit identified as “Faith” company, located in the Santej industrial estate. Officials said the blaze spread rapidly due to the large quantity of wax and other combustible materials stored inside the factory premises.

Dense plumes of black smoke were seen rising high into the sky and were visible from several kilometres away, creating panic among residents and workers in nearby industrial units.

As the flames intensified, the fire department declared a “major call”, following which firefighting teams from Ahmedabad and nearby municipalities were rushed to the spot. Several fire tenders were deployed and efforts to bring the blaze under control continued late into the evening.

According to officials, the factory manufactured wax, plastic and related industrial products. The intense heat caused the wax stored inside the premises to catch fire quickly, allowing the blaze to assume a massive form within a short span of time.

Authorities said surrounding factories in the industrial estate were also affected due to the spread of the fire. As a precautionary measure, nearby units were evacuated to prevent any casualties.

Three persons sustained injuries during the initial phase of the incident and were shifted to Sola Civil Hospital for treatment. Their condition is stated to be stable.

Officials from the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services said assistance was sought after the scale of the fire escalated. The exact cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

Santej Police and local administrative teams also reached the spot and cordoned off the area to facilitate rescue and firefighting operations.
