Masked robbers loot over ₹2.47 crore from businessman’s house in Rajkot, elderly man held hostage

A major robbery was reported from the Shapar-Veraval area of Rajkot, where a group of masked men allegedly looted more than ₹2.47 crore in cash and gold ornaments after taking a 77-year-old man hostage inside his home late at night.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place at around 1 am. The victim, identified as 77-year-old Jitendrasinh Jadeja, was alone at his residence when five to seven unidentified masked men allegedly entered the house.

The accused reportedly held Jadeja hostage and carried out the robbery before fleeing from the spot. Initial details suggest the robbers escaped with ₹2.47 crore in cash and around 5 to 7 tolas of gold jewellery.

Sources said the Jadeja family is associated with farming, a petrol pump business, and plotting activities, and it is believed that the large amount of cash was kept at the residence.

Following information about the robbery, Rajkot Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) and other senior police officials rushed to the spot. Considering the seriousness of the case, multiple teams of the local police and the Local Crime Branch (LCB) have been formed to investigate the incident.

Police have launched a search operation and set up checkpoints across the area to trace the masked suspects. Investigators are also examining CCTV footage from the locality and surrounding areas to establish the route taken by the accused after the robbery.

Police are additionally probing whether any insider information may have been used in planning the robbery.
