Manekbaug apartment residents protest alleged harassment by two members, approach police

Residents of Sunpreema Apartment in the Manekbag–Ambawadi area have launched a protest alleging sustained harassment by two members of their own housing society. The residents have approached the Women’s Police Station as well as the Satellite Police Station, seeking intervention and protection.
According to residents, repeated incidents over the past several months have created an atmosphere of intimidation within the apartment complex, prompting them to seek police assistance.
Allegations of sexist remarks and intimidation
Women residents have made specific allegations of verbal abuse and harassment after seeking representation on the apartment’s managing committee. They alleged that one of the accused members made derogatory remarks suggesting that women should confine themselves to domestic roles rather than participate in committee affairs.
Residents stated that a majority of the flats in the apartment are registered in women’s names, and that their demand for inclusion in the managing committee was met with hostility and public humiliation. Apart from the alleged sexist remarks, residents also accused the two members of misbehaving with security guards and issuing threats.
Claims of repeated legal and police pressure
In their complaint, residents named Dr Ronak Shah and Nisarg Sheth, both members of Sunpreema Apartment, accusing them of continuous harassment. They alleged that the two frequently escalate minor disputes, repeatedly approaching courts and police stations, which, residents claim, has caused persistent distress among society members.
CCTV tampering and missing equipment
Residents further alleged that on the night of December 9, Shah and Sheth arrived at the apartment complex with two other individuals, misbehaved with security guards and tampered with CCTV cameras installed on the premises. The following day, December 10, they allegedly interfered with the CCTV DVR system without informing the managing committee.
Subsequently, residents claimed that committee members were threatened, after which the DVR and some related equipment were found to be missing. Complaints regarding these incidents were lodged at the Satellite Police Station.
Security guards file complaints
Security guards Harsh Tiwari, Kuldeep Singh and Brijesh Shukla have also filed complaints, alleging that they were threatened by the two accused members during the incidents.
A Satellite Police Station official said that the matter was being investigated from all angles.
Alleged threats citing political and police connections
Residents also alleged that the accused threatened them by claiming links with Sector-1 JCC and senior police officials, asserting that “nothing can happen to us”. Following these alleged threats, residents said they escalated the matter by approaching the Police Commissioner and authorities in Gandhinagar, demanding action and justice.
