Man swept away in Machchhu River, friend who tried to save him from suicide too dies

A man lost his life while attempting to rescue his friend, who had jumped into the Machchhu River in Morbi, Gujarat, in an apparent suicide attempt. Both men drowned in the river.

According to reports, a young man jumped into the river to end his life on Friday. However, upon learning about it, his friend immediately jumped into the river in an attempt to save him. Tragically, the strong current swept both of them away, and they drowned.

Following the incident, rescue operations were launched. Nearly 50 personnel from the Morbi and Rajkot fire departments, along with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), carried out an intensive search for about 40 hours before successfully recovering the bodies from the river.

Police have taken custody of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination. A detailed investigation has been initiated to ascertain the reason behind the suicide, and further action will be taken based on the post-mortem findings.
