Man sustained skull fracture after alleged bat attack in Ahmedabad, two booked for attempt to murder

A 37-year-old man sustained serious head injuries, including a skull fracture, after he was allegedly assaulted with a tennis bat outside his residential apartment in Behrampura late on Thursday night, police said.
According to Danilimda police, the accused have been identified as Jimmy Amritbhai Kapadia, a resident of the same apartment complex, and his associate Dhaval Kataria. Both have been booked on charges including attempt to murder and criminal intimidation.
The complaint was lodged by Sangeetaben Kapadia, wife of injured Nileshbhai Kapadia, who works at a private store at Ahmedabad’s domestic airport.
Police said the incident took place around 9 pm on April 23, near the gate of Jethal Apartment in Behrampura when the complainant, her husband and their son were leaving on a motorcycle.
According to police, Jimmy was standing near the apartment gate when Nilesh allegedly asked him why he was staring angrily. This reportedly led to an altercation, following which Jimmy allegedly fetched a wooden tennis bat from his father’s office and struck Nilesh twice on the head.
As Nilesh fell from the motorcycle, the accused allegedly continued the assault, hitting him multiple times on his hands and legs with the bat, police said.
The complainant further alleged that Dhaval Kataria, who was present at the scene, encouraged Jimmy to continue the assault and shouted at him to beat the victim further. When she attempted to intervene, both accused allegedly advanced towards her and threatened to kill the family before fleeing.
The injured man was rushed to SVP Hospital in a 108 ambulance, where doctors reportedly found fractures on the left side of his skull and cheekbone. He remains under treatment.
Police said preliminary investigation suggests the assault may have stemmed from an earlier dispute between the complainant and Jimmy over alleged harassment of her son.
