A 32-year-old man was stabbed to death outside Ronak Pan House in Fatehwadi in Sarkhej, Ahmedabad late on Sunday night following a heated altercation that reportedly began when the accused demanded a cigarette. Police said the assailant, identified as Sajidali alias Shahrukh alias Leakage alias Bokho, attacked the victim, Javed Saiyed, with a knife on his back, causing severe bleeding.

According to police, Sajidali confronted Javed near the paan shop and asked him for a cigarette. When Javed refused, the accused allegedly became enraged. As the argument escalated, Sajidali is said to have pulled out a knife and stabbed Javed from behind. Eyewitnesses alerted locals and the police, while Javed collapsed at the spot.

Family members and passers-by rushed him to a private hospital in Juhapura, where he succumbed to his injuries during brief treatment. Doctors stated that the stab wound had led to heavy blood loss.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused has multiple previous offences registered against him in Sarkhej and adjoining areas. “He is a habitual offender and has been involved in several criminal activities,” said HarshadKumar Patel, DCP, Zone 1, adding that teams have been formed to trace and apprehend him.

Javed’s brother, Zakir, said the family was devastated and demanded strict action. “My brother lost his life over a trivial quarrel. We want justice and immediate arrest of the accused,” he said. Wasim, Javed’s brother-in-law, echoed the demand, calling the attack “senseless and unprovoked”.

Sarkhej police have registered a case of murder under Section of the BNS against Sajidali alias Shahrukh. Efforts are on to locate him, and further investigation is under way.
