Man stabbed to death in Ahmedabad after dispute over ‘loud music’, neighbour booked for murder

The Bavla police in Ahmedabad have launched a probe after a 36-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by his neighbour during a quarrel over loud music late on Friday night. The victim, identified as Pradeepsinh Prabhatsinh Chauhan, succumbed to his injuries shortly after being brought to Saraswati Hospital in Bopal, Ahmedabad.

According to the complaint filed by the victim’s elder brother, Mahipatsinh Chauhan (38), the incident took place around 10.15 pm on November 28 outside Shyam Complex, near Asopalav Society, Bavla.

Altercation over music volume escalates

Mahipatsinh, who runs an agricultural pesticide shop in Bavla and lives in South Bopal with his wife and son, told the police that he received a distress call from his brother-in-law informing him that Pradeepsinh had been injured and was being brought to hospital.

When he reached Saraswati Hospital, he found Pradeepsinh bleeding heavily with two stab wounds — one on the left side of his chest, with muscle tissue protruding, and another below the left rib area. Doctors declared him dead within 15 minutes of admission.

Tenant narrates the sequence of events

Based on the FIR, the family’s tenant, Ravindra Bahadur Singh, recounted that Pradeepsinh had received a complaint from neighbour Suresh Thakkar, who alleged that Ravindra was playing loud music.

Ravindra denied the allegation, following which Pradeepsinh visited his room to verify the matter. Within minutes, Pradeepsinh accompanied Ravindra to confront Suresh Thakkar, who was sitting outside his room.

An argument broke out, during which Suresh allegedly asked them to vacate the rented room and began quarrelling aggressively. Hearing the commotion, Lakshman Bharwad, who runs the dairy downstairs, and his son intervened to defuse the situation.

However, Suresh allegedly reignited the argument moments later and, in a fit of rage, pulled out a knife from beneath his chair and stabbed Pradeepsinh twice, the FIR states. As the victim collapsed, Ravindra and the Bharwads caught hold of him and rushed him downstairs.

With no doctor available at Bavla hospital, the injured man was taken to Saraswati Hospital in Bopal, where he was declared dead.

Murder case registered

Mahipatsinh told the police that the family and relatives had gathered at the hospital soon after the incident, and the police facilitated the postmortem.

Based on the complaint, Bavla Police have registered a case of murder against Suresh Thakkar, a resident of Shyam Complex, Bavla. Police officials said statements of key witnesses, including Ravindra and the Bharwad family, have been recorded.

Bavla Police officials said that further investigation is under way to trace the accused, verify the sequence of events, and recover the weapon used in the crime.

The body has been handed over to the family after the postmortem.
