A 35-year-old man sustained serious injuries after he was allegedly stabbed by an acquaintance following a previous dispute in the Danilimda area of Ahmedabad.

Azharuddin alias Aju Sheikh, a resident of Danilimda, is currently undergoing treatment at LG Hospital, where his statement was recorded by the police.

According to police, the incident took place around 8.30 pm on March 26 near Lucky Tea Stall at Bheral Market. The victim stated that he was standing at the spot when the accused, identified as Bablu Sheikh, allegedly approached him from behind and attacked him with a knife.

The accused stabbed him on the left side of his back and again on his stomach.

Hearing his screams, local residents gathered at the spot, following which the accused fled the scene. The victim’s friend, Firoz Sheikh, later rushed him to L G Hospital on a two-wheeler for treatment.

Police said the attack is suspected to have been triggered by a prior altercation between the victim and the accused. The complainant has alleged that the accused was holding a grudge over a dispute that occurred about a month ago.

A case has been registered at Danilimda Police Station under relevant sections pertaining to attempt to murder and causing grievous hurt.

Officials said efforts are under way to trace and apprehend the accused, who is absconding.
