In a violent fallout of an old quarrel from the Diwali festival, a 28-year-old man was allegedly attacked with a knife by a resident in Ahmedabad’s Shahibaug area late on Sunday night. The victim, identified as Jayesh Saubhagatji, sustained multiple stab wounds and is currently undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital, Asarwa.

As per the FIR registered at Madhavpura Police Station, the incident occurred around 9.30 pm on November 9, in Shahibaug, where the complainant resides with his family.

Jayesh, who works at a readymade garment shop in Gheekanta, told police that he was standing and chatting with his friends Sahil, Santosh, and Krishna when the accused, identified as Vijay Dantani, approached him aggressively.

“Vijay came to me and said that I had argued with him during Diwali. He asked if I wanted to fight and challenged me to do so right then. I told him I did not want any trouble and asked him to go home peacefully. He got angry, abused me, and then left,” Jayesh said in his complaint.

Moments later, Vijay returned with a knife-like weapon hidden behind his back. Without warning, he attacked Jayesh, stabbing him multiple times. Before fleeing the scene, the accused allegedly threatened to kill Jayesh if he saw him again. Several residents who had gathered at the spot witnessed the altercation and called 108 ambulance.

Based on the complaint, the Madhavpura police have registered a case against Vijay Dantani under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for attempt to murder, criminal intimidation, and use of a deadly weapon.

“The accused attacked the victim following a previous quarrel during Diwali celebrations. The weapon used appears to be a sharp knife. We are tracing his whereabouts,” said a police official.

Officers have launched a manhunt for the absconding accused and are recording statements of eyewitnesses present at the scene. Jayesh remains admitted to Civil Hospital, where doctors said his condition is stable.

Police officials said the attack appears to be motivated by personal enmity, and further investigation is underway to determine whether others were involved in the assault.
