Man stabbed by live-in partner’s estranged husband in Sarkhej

A 30-year-old man was fatally stabbed in the Sarkhej area of Ahmedabad in the early hours of Wednesday, allegedly by his live-in partner’s estranged husband. The accused, identified as Zakir Rafiqbhai Memon, is currently absconding.

As per the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the victim’s sister Shamsad Jivanbhai Belim, the deceased Sarfaraz Nurmohammad Rangrej, a decorator by profession, had been in a live-in relationship with Dilsad Zakir Memon for the past seven months. Although Dilsad was still legally married to Zakir, she had been living with Sarfaraz as husband and wife in a rented home near Indiranagar Janpath Hotel, Sarkhej.

Around 12.30 am on July 16, Zakir allegedly arrived at the house unannounced and forcibly entered the premises. Dilsad told police that Zakir began hurling abuses and picked a fight with her. When Sarfaraz intervened, Zakir reportedly stabbed him in the right side of the chest before fleeing the scene.

Dilsad recounted that Sarfaraz, gravely injured and bleeding, managed to stumble outside to seek help. He eventually collapsed in a neighbouring home. An ambulance was called, but paramedics declared him dead on the spot.

Shamsad, who resides in Vejalpur with her husband and children, was alerted about the incident by her sister Ruksanbanu. Upon reaching the scene with family members, she found Sarfaraz lying in a pool of blood. The family has alleged that the murder was premeditated and stemmed from Zakir’s resentment over Dilsad’s relationship with Sarfaraz.

Police have registered a case of murder under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the Sarkhej police station have launched a manhunt to trace Zakir Memon, whose last known address is Narol, Ahmedabad.

Sarfaraz is survived by his siblings and elderly parents. He had divorced his previous wife Nagma about a year ago. Police said statements from witnesses, including Dilsad, the victim’s sisters, and family members, have been recorded, and further investigation is ongoing.
