Man dies by suicide with illegal pistol in Satellite, police register Arms Act offence

A 50-year-old man allegedly died by suicide using an unlicensed pistol at his residence in Satellite, Ahmedabad, earlier last month. The police have now registered an offence under the Arms Act after it was found that the deceased had illegally procured and possessed the firearm.
According to Anandnagar police, the deceased, identified as Ramesh Thakor, a resident of Satellite, allegedly shot himself in the forehead with a pistol around 9.15 pm on September 5. He was rushed to Shalby Hospital in a private vehicle, but was declared dead on arrival by doctors around 9.30 pm.
Police officials had received a message from Shalby Hospital regarding the incident. Following this, an accidental death report was initially registered under section of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
During the course of the investigation, the police recorded statements from Thakor’s wife and son, who reportedly confirmed that the deceased did not possess any firearm licence or official documents authorising the weapon. The pistol, believed to have been illegally purchased, has been sent for forensic examination.
Based on the findings, the Anandnagar police registered an offence under section of the Arms Act, which pertains to the illegal possession of firearms. Further investigation is carried out into the source of the weapon and the circumstances leading to the suicide.
Authorities said efforts are underway to trace the origin of the firearm and ascertain from whom it was procured.
