A sessions court in Surat has sentenced one Jayesh Jogel to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for his involvement in a 2019 daylight snatching and theft case.

According to court records, the incident occurred on November 22, 2019, near Shiv Shakti Sweets on Ring Road, Surat. The complainant, Nanakram Khilwani, a saree trader from Maharashtra, was loading purchased goods into a rented vehicle when Jogel intentionally collided into him with an moped to distract him.

Concurrently, a juvenile accomplice slit Khilwani's pocket, stealing ₹60,000 in cash before both fled on the moped.

Salabatpura police apprehended Jogel and the minor within three hours of the crime, recovering ₹32,000 in cash, a mobile phone, and the unregistered moped.

The court found Jogel guilty under Sections 379(A)(3) (snatching) and 114of the Indian Penal Code. Alongside the seven-year prison term, the court imposed a fine of ₹1,000, failing which Jogel will face an additional year of rigorous imprisonment.
