Man presents fake medical certificate for bail, HC judge reprimands him

On an uncanny day in Gujarat High Court, a party-in-person sought bail before the court, presenting a fake medical certificate of the alleged accused’'s wife.

‘Party-in-person’ is someone who intends to plead, appear, and argue his or her own case before the high court, not through an advocate.

In order to receive bail for his nephew, a man presented a fake medical certificate for his nephew’s wife in the high court. He requested the bail, saying that his nephew’s wife has to undergo surgery for which he will have to be present.

However, Justice JC Doshi recognised that the submitted medical certificate for his wife was forged. Reprimanding the applicant, Justice Doshi said, “This medical certificate is bogus.”

After further probing questions for the applicant, the justice said that this medical certificate was fake and was received after paying money.

“The certificate presented here at Sushilaben Hospital is not genuine, and Dr Vinod Gupta, the doctor who has dispatched the certificate, is not authorised for it. Now, what do you have to say?” Justice Doshi asked the applicant.

Justice further told the applicant that he might go to jail for presenting fake documents to the court.

Following the rebuke, the applicant accepted the felony and apologised to the court. Justice asked the applicant to withdraw the application and accepted his apology.
