A man who needed money for his son’s treatment killed a woman selling coconuts outside a temple for ₹1,500 in Gujarat’s Lukhasan village of Sidhpur, revealed police investigation.

Kesar Rawal’s strangled body was found in a suspicious condition a little away from the Hanuman temple of the village on July 21. The accused confessed to attacking Rawal to steal money from her.

However, when Rawal started screaming for help, the accused dragged her to a nearby bush and strangled her with her saree.

In this regard, the police had first registered a case of accidental death and later murder. After the post-mortem report concluded that there had been a murder, different teams of police swung into action to solve the murder case.

The police interrogated around 800 people living in Lukhasan, Nandiva, Nagwasan, Sandesari and Menoj villages, including agricultural labourers and migrants from other districts and states.

The surveillance of the CCTV footage led the police to one Kalpesh Valmiki based on his orange-coloured pants. Upon questioning, Valmiki confessed to the crime.

The accused said that on July 20, 2024, he needed money as his son was sick and required medical attention.

In his desperation, he attacked the woman outside the Hanuman temple and stole ₹1,500 after strangling her to death. 

According to Valmiki, he then took his son to hospital.

The police have arrested Valmiki.
