A 42-year-old man was killed following a violent altercation with his friend over a dispute related to daily expenses in Aslali village on the outskirts of Ahmedabad on Monday evening, police said.

The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Aslali Police Station, where Sunil Tiwari, the victim, was allegedly assaulted by his friend Yogesh Dwivedi after a heated argument escalated into physical violence. According to the police, the two men had been quarrelling frequently over the sharing of routine household and living expenses.

On Monday evening, the verbal spat reportedly turned into an aggressive confrontation, during which Dwivedi allegedly struck Tiwari on the head with a metal tiffin box. The blow caused serious head injuries, and Tiwari collapsed on the spot. He was rushed for medical assistance but succumbed to his injuries.

Following information about the incident, a team from the Aslali Police Station reached the spot and initiated an investigation. Based on preliminary evidence and eyewitness accounts, the police arrested the accused soon after the incident.

Police officials said the accused, Yogesh Dwivedi, is a native of Uttar Pradesh and has been working in the Aslali area for the past two to three years. Both the victim and the accused were known to each other and were residing and working in the same locality.

Confirming the arrest, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Ahmedabad Rural) Aastha Rana said the dispute stemmed from disagreements over daily expenditure, which eventually led to the fatal assault. “The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the sequence of events and gather additional evidence,” she said.

A case of murder has been registered at the Aslali Police Station, and the police are recording statements of witnesses and examining forensic evidence as part of the probe.
