A 20-year-old man was killed and another sustained serious injuries after a speeding car, allegedly driven recklessly by a minor, rammed into their motorcycle near Amikunj Crossroads in Naranpura late on Monday night.
According to a complaint lodged at 'B' Division Traffic Police Station, the incident took place around 11 pm on Tuesday, when the complainant, Brijesh Dudabhai Dodia (20), a resident of Viveknagar Society near Ankur Char Rasta, along with his friend Aryanbhai Vanubhai Barad (20) of Sutrapada in Gir Somnath district, was returning home on a motorcycle via CG Road.
The police said that as they approached Amikunj Crossroads, a white Hyundai Creta coming from AEC Crossroads allegedly hit their two-wheeler from behind at high speed.
The car driver, whose identity was initially unknown, drove the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner, causing both riders to be thrown off the bike.
While Dodia sustained minor injuries, Barad suffered severe head injuries and multiple fractures. He was rushed to Asarwa Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead in the early hours of Wednesday.
Investigations revealed that the vehicle involved was being driven by a 19-year-old minor, identified as Sarmath Agarwal, son of Sunilkumar Mulchandbhai Agarwal, a resident of Sadbhav Society near Naranpura Railway Crossing. The police detained Agarwal on Wednesday morning after tracing the vehicle to his residence.
During investigation it was also revealed that both the vehicle were over speeding when the accident took place.
The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), causing death by negligence, rash driving endangering life and carious sections of Motor Vehicles Act.
Police officials said that further investigation is underway to determine how the minor obtained access to the vehicle and whether there was any parental negligence involved.
