Man held with MD drugs worth ₹82,800 in Ahmedabad, Mumbai links under probe
The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Ahmedabad Crime Branch has arrested a 32-year-old man from Viratnagar crossroads with mephedrone (MD) drugs valued at ₹82,800, following a tip-off about alleged retail sale of narcotics in the area.
The accused, identified as Mohsin Akbarkhan Pathan, a resident of Jamalpur, was apprehended in the early hours of March 26 from near food and beverage shops located outside the Amdavad Municipal Corporation’s East Zone office.
The SOG team received specific intelligence on March 25 evening that a man matching the accused’s description was selling MD drugs while sitting on a scooter in the Viratnagar area. Acting on the input, a raiding party proceeded to the spot.
Police said the accused was intercepted near the location indicated by the informer.
During the search, a transparent ziplock bag containing a white powdery substance was recovered from the accused’s possession. A preliminary test conducted by a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) officer confirmed the substance to be mephedrone. The net weight of the contraband was found to be 27.6 grams.
In addition to the narcotic substance, police seized a mobile phone, a scooter, cash and personal documents, with the total value of the seized items estimated at ₹1.93 lakh.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly revealed that he had sourced the drugs from contacts based in Mumbai and was selling them in retail in Ahmedabad. He named two individuals, identified as Faiaz and Babu, who are suspected to be part of the supply chain. However, both are currently absconding.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, including provisions related to possession, trafficking and criminal conspiracy. The accused has been taken into custody.
Officials said efforts are underway to trace the Mumbai-based suppliers and uncover the wider network involved in the narcotics trade.
