A 30-year-old man was caught by members of the public on Thursday after he was allegedly found peeping into a women’s toilet at the Sabarmati Riverfront under Subhash Bridge in Ahmedabad.

As per the complaint lodged by 26-year-old Priyanka Sharma of Girdharnagar, the incident occurred around 9.15 pm on October 9 when she had gone to use the public washroom run by Amdavad Municipal Corporation near the riverfront walkway.

Priyanka stated that while she was inside the washroom, she noticed movement and sounds from the adjoining cubicle. “After some time, I realised that someone was peeping from over the wall. When I shouted, the man fled from there, locking the bathroom door from outside,” her statement reads.

She then called her husband, Yash Jain, who was waiting nearby. “When my husband arrived, he saw the accused running away. There was no one else present in the public washroom,” the complaint adds. Jain managed to catch hold of the accused before he could escape.

Police Control Room was subsequently informed, and a team reached the spot and took the man into custody. The accused was identified as Ashishkumar Bhil (30), a daily wage labourer residing near Mohan Cinema in Asarwa, Ahmedabad.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered at the Sabarmati Riverfront East station under relevant sections of the BNS, including provisions about outraging the modesty of a woman and wrongful confinement.

Further inquiry is underway to determine whether the accused has been involved in similar incidents in the past.
