Man held for allegedly harassing women near Hathijan–Jashodanagar stretch

A 29-year-old man was arrested late on Friday night for allegedly harassing and making indecent advances towards women walking along the Hathijan Crossroads–Jashodanagar stretch in Ahmedabad’s GIDC Vatva area, police said.

The incident occurred around 11.15 pm on November 28, when a police team was patrolling the Vatva GIDC post area.

While the team was moving from Nika Tube Crossroads towards Hathijan Crossroads, they noticed two women being harassed by a man near the roadside. The police immediately approached the accused.

The man, identified as Ketankumar Hasmukhbhai, a resident of Harijanwas in Kheda district, was detained on the spot. Police said he was found “indecently flirting with and harassing women in a public place”.

The FIR states that the accused was engaged in behaviour that caused disturbance and nuisance to women passing by. He was subsequently booked under Sections of the Gujarat Police Act, which pertain to disorderly conduct and public nuisance.

Officials said the complaint was recorded in the presence of panch witnesses and has been admitted as correct by the complainant. Vatva GIDC Police said further inquiry is under way.
