Adding to the rising scams in the hospitals of the state, a man in Navi Sedhavi, Mehsana, was subjected to a vasectomy surgery without his knowledge or consent.

According to the Sarpanch of Navi Sedhavi, a health department staff member approached Govind Dattani, a 30-year-old farm worker, claiming that lemon and guava crops needed to be planted on his farm. He was promised ₹500 daily for this work.

Promising him work, they lured Dattani into their car, offered him ₹100 worth of liquor, which he consumed. He was then taken to Adalaj Government Hospital in a government ambulance.

Once at the hospital, while unconscious, a vasectomy was performed on Dattani. His fingerprint was taken on a hospital form, and he was then dropped back at his farm.

Dattani realised the surgery had taken place the next day when he experienced severe pain while urinating.

It is speculated that this incident occurred due to a target set by the health department. Mehsana district had been given a target of 175 vasectomy surgeries, but only 28 operations were completed.

The revelation of this scam has put the state government under intense scrutiny.

According to the law, for a vasectomy surgery to be conducted, the wife’s permission is required, and both the man and his wife must sign the consent form. However, the health department officials disregarded these legal requirements and forcibly performed the vasectomy on Dattani.

Reportedly Dattani was about to get married in a month.
