A 27-year-old man from Rajasthan died after getting electrocuted during the renovation work at the Khokhra crematorium in Ahmedabad due to alleged negligence by the contractor, Keshavpriya Project Pvt Ltd.

According to information, water had accumulated in a pit dug for renovation work at the crematorium. Deepak Radheshyam Sevta, currently residing in Chandkheda, went into the pit to check the water level where he came into contact with a live three-phase electrical line. Although local youths rushed to rescue him, they could not save him.

When the youth was pulled out an ambulance was called, and reportedly around eight workers present at the site fled instead of staying to help. When the incident was reported to the municipal control room, the officials allegedly directed the callers to another office saying the place of incident was under different jurisdiction.

Following the incident Himanshu Mehta, Additional City Engineer of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation, South Zone, reportedly stated that a notice will be issued to the contractor over the incident, and a police complaint will be filed by the department against the contractor for negligence that led to the death.
