Man dies after fall from 13th floor in Ahmedabad’s Shela area, suicide suspected

A man died after falling from the 13th floor of a residential building in the Shela area of Ahmedabad on Friday evening, police said. The incident was reported from D Block of Sun Atmosphere society, triggering panic among residents.

The deceased has been identified as Nilesh Babulal Mehta(49). He was rushed to Sola Civil Hospital following the incident, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Police said preliminary findings suggest that Mehta may have died by suicide, though the exact circumstances leading to the fall are yet to be established. “Initial inquiry indicates that the deceased was suffering from a prolonged illness. It is suspected that he may have taken the extreme step due to distress related to his health condition,” a police officer said, adding that this angle is being verified.

Officials said no suicide note has been recovered so far. A detailed investigation is under way to ascertain whether the death was accidental or a case of suicide. Statements of family members and residents of the building will be recorded as part of the probe.

Further clarity is expected after the detailed investigation, post-mortem and forensic reports are received, officials said.
