Man booked for constructing, renting shops on land belonging to Urdu Schools in Jamalpur

A complaint has been filed at the Gaekwad Haveli Police Station by Dilip Sahu, an official of Nagar Primary Education Committee, who has accused one Salim Pathan and his associates of encroaching upon land belonging to an Urdu school and illegally leasing out shops on the premises.

According to the complaint, Urdu school numbers 3-4 and Urdu School numbers 9-10 near Kanch ni Masjid in Jamalpur, which were given to the Nagar Prathmik Shikshan Samiti by the mosque trust 85 years ago for a monthly rent of ₹155.

However, after the 2001 earthquake, the school’s building was dilapidated. At that time, a man named Salim Khan Pathan wrote a letter as trustee of Kanch ni Masjid and promised to repair the school.

The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) then permitted the razing of schools. However, after the school was transferred somewhere else, Pathan constructed shops at that place.

In January 2025, AMC issued a notice to raze the shops.

Pathan has been allegedly operating 15 shops for the past 15 years and has collected lakhs of rupees as rent and deposit. It is also alleged that the officials of the Estate Department were aware, and there is suspicion that they were in collusion with the accused.

Moreover, no action was taken by the trustees of the Kanch ni Masjid. According to sources, some trustees were receiving financial benefits from Pathan.

Based on this, the police will also investigate the officials of the Estate Department thoroughly and a case will be registered against anyone found to have a criminal role.
