Man booked for allegedly assaulting mother and sister over ₹50 in Ahmedabad

A 30-year-old woman has lodged a police complaint against her younger brother after he allegedly assaulted her and their mother, attacked them with a wooden stick, and threatened to kill them with a knife during a domestic dispute over ₹50 in Ahmedabad’s Fatewadi area.

According to the complaint registered with the Vejalpur police, the accused, identified as Sahid Hussain alias Bhuro Ghulam Muhammad Sheikh, arrived at his mother’s residence in Firdosh Society on Tuesday evening and demanded ₹50 for personal use.

When his mother refused to give him the money, an argument allegedly broke out between the two. The complainant, Amrinbanu Muhammad Samir Voshana, who intervened during the altercation, alleged that her brother turned aggressive, verbally abused her, and began assaulting her.

Police said that when the complainant’s mother attempted to intervene, the accused allegedly assaulted both women and struck them with a wooden stick. He subsequently pulled out a knife from his trousers and allegedly threatened to kill them if they did not hand over the money.

The complainant further stated that after she informed the police control room, the accused allegedly injured his own hand with a blade upon learning that police had been called.

A police vehicle reached the spot soon thereafter, following which the complainant and her mother approached the police station and lodged a formal complaint.

Based on the complaint, the Vejalpur police have registered an offence against the accused and initiated an investigation.

Investigators said statements of witnesses, including neighbours and responding police personnel, will be recorded as part of the inquiry.
