A 31-year-old employee of a clothing store at Ahmedabad airport’s Terminal 1 was injured after being allegedly attacked with a hammer by a colleague during a fight late on Saturday night.

Sardarnagar resident Neeraj Singh (31), who works at the US Polo Store, opposite Departure Gate No 6 of Terminal 1, sustained a head injury in the assault, his complain at Airport Police Station states.

Neeraj stated that around 10.30 pm on October 11, he and his friend Avinash Singh, also an employee at the same store, had an argument with Chaitanya Rathod, a colleague residing in Koteshwar, over a UPI payment issue.

The argument reportedly escalated after Avinash confronted Chaitanya over making derogatory remarks about him and another co-worker, Payal Prajapati. When Neeraj tried to intervene, Chaitanya allegedly grabbed Avinash by the collar and slapped him, leading to a scuffle.

Neeraj told the police that during the altercation, Chaitanya’s associate Dilip Singh, who works at a neighbouring store and lives in the same locality, arrived and joined the assault.

“Dilip Singh abused him and struck him on the left side of his head with a hammer, causing bleeding. People nearby rushed to stop the fight, and Neeraj was rushed to Civil Hospital for treatment,” said a police official

Police said Neeraj was admitted to Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad, where he was treated for the injury and is currently in stable condition.

Both accused Chaitanya Rathod and Dilip Singh have been booked for voluntarily causing hurt and assault under relevant sections of the BNS, and further investigation is on.

Officers said they are verifying CCTV footage from the airport terminal and store premises to ascertain the sequence of events and confirm whether a hammer was indeed used in the attack.

Police added that the accused were known to the complainant and that the incident stemmed from a personal dispute that escalated into physical violence.
