Man attacks wife with knife in public in Ahmedabad, woman hospitalised

A 27-year-old woman was grievously injured after her husband allegedly attacked her with a knife in public near Dudh Sagar Dairy in Khodiyarnagar, Ahmedabad, on Monday morning. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras, prompting swift police action.

The accused, identified as Mayank Patel, attacked his wife outside a shop near Dudh Sagar Dairy in the Nikol area, stabbing her multiple times on the neck and hands before fleeing the spot, police sources said. Passersby rushed to her aid and informed the police. The woman was shifted to a nearby hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the couple had a love marriage around one-and-a-half years ago and had been living together since. However, due to alleged harassment by her in-laws, the woman had moved to her parental home about four months ago.

Police said that the woman had earlier lodged complaints against her husband and in-laws alleging mental and physical harassment. On the day of the incident, she had stepped out for some personal work when Mayank allegedly confronted her and launched the attack.

“The accused attacked his wife in public and fled soon after. CCTV footage of the incident has been recovered, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest him,” a Nikol police officer said.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for attempt to murder, and further investigation is underway.
