Man assaulted for refusing money to acquaintance in Ahmedabad

A 34-year-old labourer from Danilimda was allegedly assaulted with a sharp weapon and threatened with death by an acquaintance on Sunday night after he refused to give him money for personal expenses. The accused also allegedly damaged the victim’s scooter with a wooden stick before fleeing the spot. An FIR has been registered at Danilimda police station.
Mohammad Salim Akbarbhai Sheikh, a resident of Golden Park near Barrel Market, states in his complaint that the incident took place around 8.30 pm near Sultan Hotel, located inside Bombay Hotel area, when he and his friend Shahid had stepped out to buy rotis for dinner.
Sheikh told police that he was confronted by Mazhar alias Kasai, whom he had known earlier from the Faisalnagar area. Mazhar allegedly demanded money for spending, to which Sheikh replied that he only had enough cash to buy dinner. Enraged, Mazhar allegedly hurled abuses at him.
The accused then went to a nearby salon opposite Sultan Hotel, picked up a weapon and attempted to attack Sheikh. When Sheikh raised his hand in self-defence, he sustained an injury to the fingers of his left hand. Terrified, he attempted to flee, but Mazhar allegedly picked up a wooden stick from the salon and struck Sheikh’s scooter, damaging the front light and side panel. He also threatened to kill Sheikh if he reported the incident to the police.
Sheikh claimed that he again encountered Mazhar shortly afterwards near the same spot, where the accused once more attempted to attack him with a weapon. Bleeding from the injury to his left hand, Sheikh called 108 emergency services. He was taken to Sheth LG Hospital, where he received treatment.
Following treatment, Sheikh approached Danilimda police station and lodged a complaint. He has named his friend Shahid as a witness.
Police have booked the accused under relevant sections pertaining to assault, criminal intimidation, and mischief for damaging property. Further investigation is under way.
