Man assaulted car windshield smashed in road rage incident at Sarkhej crossroads

The Sarkhej Police have registered a case of assault, criminal intimidation and mischief against three men who allegedly attacked a car driver, smashed the windshield and bonnet of his car, and threatened to kill him following a heated altercation over traffic at Sarkhej crossroads in Ahmedabad on the evening of October 7.

Sarkhej resident Mohammad Yusufbhai Ghachi (44) in his complaint states, the incident occurred around 7.30 pm when he was returning home from work with his family. Ghachi, who works as a junior cook at the Sainik Kalyan office in Vastrapur, was driving home after picking up his daughters from their classes in Memnagar.

When he reached the Sarkhej intersection, he was momentarily halted due to a police check to regulate traffic. As the vehicles began to move again, a pickup truck allegedly stopped abruptly in front of his car. Ghachi asked the driver to move his vehicle forward, the man refused and began arguing. Moments later, two of the driver’s acquaintances arrived, and the confrontation escalated.

The three men began verbally abusing him and, as he attempted to leave the spot, punched and smashed the front windshield of his Kia Sonet car with their hands, also damaging the bonnet. The complainant alleged that the trio hurled expletives and threatened to kill him before fleeing the scene.

“I panicked and drove away towards Makarba Police headquarters. They followed me for some distance, but I managed to call the police helpline 112. By the time the police arrived, they had escaped,” the complaint reads.

The next day, Ghachi reportedly contacted the owner of the pickup truck driver, identified as Yasinbhai, who initially agreed to compensate him for the damages but later reneged. Subsequently, Ghachi decided to file a formal complaint at the Sarkhej Police Station.

The police booked the accused driver identified as Ayan and two of his associates under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for voluntarily causing damage, criminal intimidation, and use of abusive language in public.

Police are examining CCTV footage from the Sarkhej intersection and nearby areas to identify the suspects and verify the sequence of events.
