Man arrested within hours for ‘objectionable’ social media post targeting Brahmin community in Ahmedabad

The Detection of Ahmedabad Crime Branch has arrested a 31-year-old man within hours of allegedly posting obscene and objectionable content on social media platform X that purportedly hurt the sentiments of the Brahmin community, officials said on Monday.
According to the Crime Branch, its technical surveillance unit continuously monitors social media platforms for posts that could incite enmity between communities, disturb public order, or hurt religious and caste sentiments. On April 19, officials detected a post from a user identified as “Nikhil Chavda”, which allegedly contained indecent remarks targeting the Brahmin community.
Acting on the input, a team from the Crime Branch initiated a probe using both technical analysis and human intelligence. The accused was identified as Hasmukh alias Nikhil Ramjibhai Khimjibhai Chavda, a resident of Thangadh in Surendranagar district. He was subsequently detained and brought to Ahmedabad for further legal action.
Police said a case has been registered at the Crime Branch police station under Section of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (corresponding to provisions dealing with acts intended to outrage religious feelings). A mobile phone valued at approximately ₹10,000, allegedly used to upload the content, has been seized as evidence.
Officials added that the accused has a prior criminal record. Cases registered against him include offences related to assault and intimidation, as well as violations under prohibition laws at Thangadh and Vadaj police stations.
The Crime Branch reiterated that it maintains round-the-clock vigilance on digital platforms and warned that strict action would be taken against individuals posting content that could disrupt communal harmony or public peace.
