Surat man who posed as officer in Gujarat CMO arrested
A man who posed as a officer in the CMO (Chief Minister’s Office) was arrested in Navsari. The accused, a resident of Madhi village in Bardoli taluka of Surat, was caught after he called up the Navsari district office and attempted to influence a land case by posing as an officer in the CMO.
On October 22, 2024, a call was made to Deputy Collector Janam Thakor’s mobile phone, where the caller claimed to be from the CMO in Gandhinagar. The caller said that a complainant had approached the office with a grievance related to a land case in Sisodra village of Navsari taluka.
The caller identified as Nitesh Chaudhary offered to resolve the case by working with Thakor and taluka office, even mentioning that a sum of ₹40 lakh had been taken from the complainant to settle the matter.
Thakor immediately realised that something was suspicious. The officer knew that no such illegal requests could come from the CM's office and decided to inform the responsible officials.
Thereafter, on December 31, Chaudhary made another phone call and claimed that there was large-scale corruption in the Aadhaar card updation process in Mandvi taluka. He urged the officer to contact the current Mandvi taluka authorities to resolve the issue and demanded their contact numbers.
On January 2, Thakor attempted to get more information from Nitesh Chaudhary. During the conversation, the accused claimed that he worked for the CMO, managing meetings for the CM, and that he had been with the CMO for the past 20 years. However, his answers were vague, and his statements were inconsistent, leading the officer to suspect that he was a fraud.
Investigations revealed that the accused, Nitesh Chaudhary, was not an actual CMO officer. His phone location was traced to Madhi village in Bardoli taluka of Surat.
Thakor then filed a complaint with the Navsari Rural Police, who arrested Chaudhary for impersonating a government officer and attempting to use the name of the Chief Minister’s Office for fraudulent purposes.
