Akin to a crime thriller plot, a 39-year-old man was arrested  by Ahmedabad crime branch for faking  his own death for 17 years and getting lakhs of insurance fund from the company. The accused orchestrated a plan where he allegedly killed a beggar to stage his death scene.

Following a lead received by the police, the Ahmedabad crime branch, apprehended Rajkumar Vijaykumar Chaudhary, a resident of Nikol on Nov 7.

In the preliminary investigation, his real name turned out to be Anilsingh Chaudhary.

The plan

Ahmedabad crime branch inspector MS Trivedi said that they received a tip-off that Anilsingh was found using the name of ‘Rajkumar Vijayakumar Chaudhary’, who was dead in an accident in Agra in July 2006.

The story began 17 years ago when Anilsingh and his father, Vijaypalsingh Chaudhary, orchestrated a plan to trick an insurance company and get ₹80 lakh by faking Anilsingh’s death in an accident.

As per the plan, Anilsingh took a beggar into his car, promising to feed him. Adding sleeping pills to his food, he then crashed the car along with the beggar and burned the car.

Later, Vijaypalsingh performed the last rites of his son’s fake dead body and got ₹80 lakh as a reimbursement for his death from the insurance company.

Anilsingh Chaudhary lived under the name Rajkumar Chaudhary in Ahmedabad after getting fake identity documents, including a PAN card, an Aadhar card, and a driving licence.

With the fake identity itself, he had married a woman and had two daughters. The Ahmedabad crime branch has registered the case, and further investigation is underway.
