Man arrested for strangling wife in New Ranip, accused of extramarital affair

A 35-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death by her husband at their residence in the New Ranip area of Ahmedabad, with police arresting the accused after a complaint by the victim’s father. The incident, initially suspected to be a case of sudden illness, has taken a grave turn after post-mortem findings and family allegations pointed towards foul play.

According to Sabarmati police, the deceased, identified as Komal Prajapati, was found dead at her residence in Pearl-78 Residency in New Ranip, on the morning of April 4.

The complaint was lodged by the victim’s father Ishwarbhai Thakor, who alleged that his son-in-law, Harsh Mukeshbhai Prajapati, had been harassing his daughter over the past several weeks, pressuring her to seek a divorce and subjecting her to verbal abuse. He further alleged that Harsh was involved in an extramarital relationship with another woman, which had led to frequent disputes between the couple.

The complainant claimed that Harsh had threatened Komal against disclosing the affair to anyone, warning her of dire consequences. Despite attempts by family members to mediate and resolve the issues, the situation reportedly deteriorated.

As per police, on April 4, around 11 am, Ishwarbhai received a call from Komal’s father-in-law, informing him that she had fallen ill. Upon reaching the residence along with relatives, the family found Komal lying motionless on a bed in the master bedroom. They noticed marks resembling fingernail injuries on her neck, raising suspicion.

When confronted, Harsh allegedly claimed that Komal had collapsed after feeling dizzy upon exiting the bathroom and had died following vomiting. However, the family remained unconvinced and alerted the police by dialling the emergency helpline.

Police shifted the body for post-mortem examination at Civil Hospital in Asarwa on April 5. Based on preliminary findings and subsequent inquiries, it was revealed that Harsh had a heated argument with Komal over divorce proceedings on the morning of the incident and strangled her to death.

Investigators said that the accused had assaulted the victim during the altercation before throttling her, leading to her death. Acting on the complaint and evidence gathered, Sabarmati police have arrested Harsh Mukeshbhai Prajapati and initiated further legal proceedings.

Officials said statements of family members and other witnesses are being recorded, and forensic evidence is being analysed to establish the sequence of events.
