A 32-year-old man was booked for allegedly cheating passengers by issuing fake railway e-tickets at the Ahmedabad Railway Station, officials said.

Railway Protection Force officials said the accused allegedly generated counterfeit railway tickets in PDF format on his mobile phone and used fake Passenger Name Record (PNR) numbers to deceive passengers seeking confirmed reservations.

The complaint was filed by Vijay Kumar, 27, a native of Uttar Pradesh who works as a cleaning worker at the Tata Motors Sanand Plant. Kumar currently resides near Chharodi Railway Station in the Sanand area of Ahmedabad.

Kumar said that on March 3 he went to the Ahmedabad railway station with two friends to book tickets to Banda in Uttar Pradesh. At the reservation counter, he was approached by a man wearing a white shirt and black trousers who claimed to be a railway ticket agent who could arrange confirmed tickets.

The man allegedly asked Kumar to pay an additional ₹50 per ticket for the service. Feeling assured, Kumar provided the travel details for himself and his companions. The suspect later sent what appeared to be confirmed e-tickets through WhatsApp and collected ₹2,000 for the three tickets, the complaint stated.

However, on March 11, Kumar received a call from personnel of the Railway Protection Force informing him that the tickets issued on March 7 were fake. Officials asked him to verify the PNR number online, which revealed that the tickets were not valid.

The complainant was then called to the RPF post at the station, where he was shown CCTV footage from the reservation area. Kumar identified the suspect as Upendra Kumar, a resident of Rewa district in Madhya Pradesh.

Investigators said the accused allegedly created forged railway e-ticket PDFs with fabricated PNR numbers on his mobile phone and presented them as genuine bookings, thereby cheating unsuspecting passengers.

Following the complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including provisions related to cheating, forgery and criminal deception.

Officials said, further inquiries are under way to determine whether more passengers were similarly duped.
