A shocking incident involving the sexual assault of a 12-year-old boy has come to light in Ahmedabad's Madhupura area, with police arresting the accused under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, officials said on Tuesday.

According to the police, the incident occurred on December 10 when the minor was playing near his house with a friend and recording short videos on a mobile phone. During this time, a youth identified as Badal Dantaniya allegedly approached the child, threatened him with a knife and forced him to accompany him.

Fearing for his life after being shown the knife, the minor went along with the accused, police said. The accused allegedly took the child to an isolated spot in the Madhupura area, where he subjected him to sodomy. After the act, the accused dropped the child near his house and fled the scene.

Police said the boy remained traumatised after the incident and became withdrawn at home. Sensing a change in his behaviour, his parents spoke to him gently, following which the child gathered courage and narrated the ordeal.

The child's father immediately approached the Madhupura police station to report the accused. Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS and the POCSO Act and arrested the accused.

Confirming the arrest, D V Rana, Assistant Commissioner of Police, L Division, said, "Based on the complaint and preliminary investigation, the accused was taken into custody. Further investigation is underway to ascertain all aspects of the crime."

Police said the child has been provided medical assistance and counselling, and efforts are being made to ensure his safety and psychological well-being.
