Man alleges caste abuse, assault by neighbour in Satellite area of Ahmedabad
A 30-year-old man from Ahmedabad’s Satellite area has alleged that he was assaulted with a stick and bricks and subjected to caste-based abuse by his neighbour following an argument outside their residence late on Wednesday night.
According to Anandnagar police, the incident took place around 10.15 pm on May 20 at Gopal Awas Auda Housing in the Satellite area.
Anandbhai Parmar, who belongs to a Scheduled Caste community and works as a parcel delivery employee with Flipkart, stated that he and his wife were sitting outside their residence when a verbal altercation broke out between their neighbours, identified as Vidyaben and her son Akash Parmar.
Anandbhai alleged that when he attempted to intervene and calm the situation, Akash allegedly began abusing him and made derogatory remarks referring to his caste in public. The complaint further stated that when Anandbhai objected to the remarks, the accused allegedly became aggressive, assaulted him with a stick and struck him on the head multiple times with a brick.
The victim sustained injuries to his head and near his left eye, resulting in heavy bleeding. Family members and local residents gathered at the scene following the commotion, after which the accused allegedly threatened to kill him if he crossed his path again before fleeing.
Anandbhai was rushed to Sola Civil Hospital in a 108 ambulance, where he was admitted for treatment. He told police that he was initially unable to file a complaint as he was not fully conscious following the assault.
Police have registered a case against Akash Parmar and further investigation is under way.
