A 45-year-old construction businessman from Vastrapur has filed a complaint alleging that he was assaulted by an unidentified Activa rider along with traffic police personnel during a roadside altercation near the Zydus Bridge last month. The Vastrapur police have begun an inquiry based on his detailed written complaint submitted on December 9.

Himanshu Dineshbhai Shah, a resident of Chandrapuri Apartment in Vastrapur, stated that the incident took place around 10.30 am on November 12  when he and his younger brother were driving towards Gandhinagar in his Honda City.

Shah stated that he had halted his vehicle under the Zydus Bridge as the traffic signal was not operational. An Activa rider behind him allegedly began honking repeatedly, prompting Shah to move his car aside. The rider, however, continued to hurl abuses while heading towards Palladium mall. Shah claimed that he followed the rider, confronted him and asked why he was using abusive language. The exchange soon escalated into a physical altercation between the two.

In his complaint, Shah alleged that during the scuffle, Traffic Police Constable Chandrasinh Chavda, along with a home guard and Traffic Response Brigade (TRB) personnel stationed nearby, intervened and began beating him with lathis instead of separating the parties involved.

The officers allegedly took Shah aside and made him sit at their post. A bystander is believed to have dialled the emergency number 100, following which police personnel from Vastrapur police station arrived and took all parties into custody.

Shah said he lodged a complaint the same day, but sought medical treatment only the next morning. He was admitted to SVP Hospital for 24 hours due to injuries sustained in the incident, he stated.

On December 9, Shah submitted a formal written complaint reiterating the events and naming the unknown Activa rider, Constable Chandrasinh Chavda, and other unidentified TRB and home guard personnel. He also listed his brother, Ummagbhai Shah, as a witness.

Police officials said an inquiry has been initiated to determine the sequence of events, the conduct of the traffic personnel and the identity of the Activa rider. Further action will be taken based on the findings, the officials added.
