A man was allegedly assaulted after raising a question at a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) election rally in Od village of Wankaner taluka in Gujarat, police said on Friday, as videos of the incident circulated widely on social media.

The incident took place during a campaign meeting held in the run-up to local body elections in the presence of Rajya Sabha MP Kesaridev Singh Jhala.

According to preliminary information, the man questioned local issues and development work during the rally. Soon after, an argument broke out between him and some supporters present at the venue, which escalated into a scuffle.

The man was allegedly beaten up during the altercation, even as the meeting was underway, eyewitnesses said.

Videos of the incident have since gone viral, triggering reactions in the Wankaner area, with locals expressing concern over the developments.

There was no immediate statement from BJP leaders regarding the incident.

Police to probe and take action as per the findings.
