The Chicago police in the US arrested Harsh Patel, also known as Dirty Harry, for his involvement in the illegal smuggling Patel family (of no relation) of Gujarat’s Dingucha that died in January 2022 on the Canada-US border.

An arrest warrant was issued against Harsh about five months ago. According to local media, he was also produced in court after the arrest.

The documents presented in the court revealed that Harsh Patel used to run a casino in Florida.

Harsh had also hired a US citizen named Steve Shand to help him illegally bring people to the USA from Canada, which included mostly Indians.

In the affidavit filed in the court by the Department of Homeland Security, besides Harsh Patel, there are new allegations against another agent named Fenil Patel, who has been accused by the Gujarat Police.

Fenil Patel is on the wanted list of the Gujarat Police but is currently believed to be living in Toronto.

Another agent named Rajinder Pal Singh, who was declared guilty by the US court in this case, was sentenced to 45 months. Rajinder also identified Fenil Patel during interrogation and admitted his involvement in getting Dingucha’s Patel family to cross the border.

On Jan 19, 2022, the Patel family died of exposure, trying to illegally cross the Canada-US border, and enter the USA.
