In a significant administrative move, the Gujarat Home Department has ordered a major reshuffle in the state police force, promoting 254 unarmed Police Sub-Inspectors (PSIs) to the rank of Police Inspector (PI), Class-2, along with their transfers to new postings.

According to official sources, the promoted officers have been moved from Pay Matrix Level-7 (₹39,900 – ₹1,26,600) to Level-8 (₹44,900 – ₹1,42,400). These promotions have been granted on a temporary basis, and all officers have been instructed to report immediately to their assigned locations.

The development comes ahead of the upcoming local self-government elections, making the reshuffle strategically important. Sources indicate that further changes are likely, with around 600 Police Inspectors expected to be internally transferred by the end of March.

Additionally, once the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) process is completed, transfer orders for officers from PI to DySP level may also be issued soon. Following the conclusion of the Assembly session, the Home Department has prioritized these large-scale changes within the police department.

The move is being seen as a crucial administrative step to streamline law enforcement ahead of the elections.
